WIND SHIELD

WINDSHIELD:

The windshield of a car, also known as the front car glass or windscreen, serves multiple functions in your automobile. Here are a few of them.

  • One of the most basic functions of a windshield of a car is to provide a clear, unobstructed view of the roads ahead to the driver. A clear view is of much importance if you want to drive your car safely without getting into potentially dangerous situations.
  • A windshield for a car, as its name suggests, is a ‘shield’ that protects the vehicle’s occupants and the interiors of the car from dust, stones, debris, bugs, rain, wind, and other such outside elements that you encounter on the roads.
  • The windshield for a car also is a fundamental safety unit of your car. It lends 40% structural strength to the car roof. If you get caught in a rollover, the windshield in the car works as a supportive beam and prevents the car roof from caving in and collapsing on you and your loved ones.
  • The windshield of the car helps in the proper deployment of the front airbags. The car windshield acts as the backstop for the airbag to inflate towards the occupants of the vehicle. Without the windshield absorbing the impact on the airbags, the airbags will not work efficiently and malfunction.

Design Requirement :

Gradient Lines

  • Printed Filaments in the top and bottom of the windshield
  • To hide rubber sealant and metal joints near roof and cowl area
  • To give better aesthetic looks
  • Also to hide IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror)
  • Dotted filaments in rear windshield gets heated up and acts as defoggers
  • Most of the windshield has a small sheet in between them.
  • The Gradient lines are present in the car's windsheild id to hide the rubber sealants that holds the windshield with the A-pillar and the Hood cowl.
  • The shape of the gradient lines are being made in the specific design as they hide the inside rear view mirror or the rear view mirror that is placed in the car for the drriver's additional view on what is happening on the road behind him.

Glass is composed of numerous oxides that fuse and react together upon heating to form a glass. These include silica (SiO 2 ), sodium oxide (Na 2 O), and calcium oxide (CaO). Raw materials from which these materials are derived are sand, soda ash (Na 2 CO 3 ), and limestone (CaCO 3 ). Soda ash acts as a flux; in other words, it lowers the melting point of the batch composition. Lime is added to the batch in order to improve the hardness and chemical durability of the glass. Glass used for windshields also usually contains several other oxides: potassium oxide (K 2 O derived from potash), magnesium oxide (MgO), and aluminum oxide (AI 2 O 3 derived from feldspar).

TYPES OF WINDSHIELD GLASS:

  • When discussing laminated glass vs tempered glass, the manufacturing process pretty much separates the two. Laminated glass is made by bonding one or two layers of glass with a layer of resin, commonly polyvinyl butyral (PVB).
  • Tempered glass is produced in the process of toughening standard glass to give stronger glass. In fact, this toughening process makes it several times stronger than laminated glass. This process often involves heating, high-pressure, and chemical treatment procedures.
