Challenge

Week 9 - Project - Master Section Development

Objective:- We will create B-Pillar from given Class-A surface.

Master Section:- In this B-Pillar model, there are two mastersections (a) Yellow colour master section for Main Body and Green colur master section for Dog house as well as for Locators.

Master sections are the guides for design requierments which decide the component packaging after technical like styling, Concept or Class-A surfaces.

Step 1. We will check the given Class A surface for surface defects and geometry errors thatswhy we will perform join operation to join all the patches after that we will use multi-section tool to create missing surface.

Step 2. We will create tooling axis with the help of bisecting method on given master sections.

There are two tooling axis (1) Primary tooling axis (2) Secondary tooling axis

Pink colour line is showing Primary tooling axis and Red colour line is showing secondary tooling axis (Lifter axis).

Along which dog house is created (Since it will be difficult to clear the dog house in primary tooling axis, side core axis is provided).

Step 3. We will create B- Surface.

  • We will extract the base surface, side walls and outer flanges are extracted separately using multi extract command.
  • Each extracted surface was offsetted to a thickness value of 2mm.
  • Combination of trim and split operations performed to join the elements.

Step 4. We will create outer flanges on either side in Class A with reference from the given master section, we will use sweep with reference surface command.

Step 5. We will create Class-C surface for that we will use sweep with draft direction command and we will provide minimum 3 degree draft angle. Draft direction will be Primary tooling axis.

Step 6. We will join the Class A and C and trim with Class B surface to get final surface model.

Step 7. We will use Close surface command to get the Soild model.

Step 8. We will create the Dog house, Locators and Ribs as per given design rule.

Step 9. We will perform Draft analysis to check the tooling feasibility.

  • We will do draft analysis of Class A surface.

The whole Class A is green in colour indicating proper tooling feasibility with the selected draft direction and Red colour lines are B side features.

  • We wil do draft analysis on Class B surface.

The whole Class B also in Green colour except some areas of dog house because the Master section of dog is not proper thatswhy we highlighted below with respective draft angle.

Tree Structure

Conclusion

We devloped the B-Pillar from the given class A surface and we performed draft analysis to check the tooling feasibility. So this developed solid modelclear the tooling.
