Week 9 - Project - A pillar Design with Master Section

DRAFT ANALYSIS OF A-PILLAR

Draft analysis

Draft analysis is done in the design stage, where the main tooling axis is analyzed with respect to the draft angle of the product. The Maximum draft angle is 3 degrees and the minimum is 0.5 degrees mainly on ribs, dog-house, and other engineering features. The draft angle of the component should pass the draft analysis with respect to the main tooling axis.

Tooling axis

The tooling axis defines the core and cavity movement in the injection molding. So, it's very important to determine the perfect tooling axis. Improper tooling axis may lead to improper formation of product inside the mold.

Procedure for tooling axis creation

In the given A-pillar tooling axis creation is simple, though they have the master section, we can extract the 4 lines from four corners of the master section and create a mid-point on the surface to create bisecting lines. After getting two bisection lines, we should bisect the two lines with respect to the created mid-point to get the final tooling axis.

Line creation using the master section

The final main tooling axis is the one that is going to determine the core and cavity movement for the product. We should do a draft analysis using the main tooling axis and for dog-house creation, we should create another side core axis because we have a side core for the dog-house.
