A-pillar Design
What is A-Pillar in Car?

In a car pillar are refer to roof pillar and they are lettered as A-pillar which is situated at the front of the vehicle and it straddle the windshield, B-pillars are in the of the car where passenger compartment door are fitted and C-D-pillar are at the end of the car for rear passenger compartment or the luggage compartment.
Design of A-Pillar
It starts with checking the class A Surface weather the surface is good or not and if not, first we repair the surface and then we do the draft analysis. To check the we use either joint command or we can use boundary command.

We have use the boundary command and ensure that the surface is good and no need to be repaired.
Tooling Direction and Draft analysis
Once the surface is checked we do the draft analysis to see if the part can be manufacture or not. For that we required tooling direction, so we create a tooling direction by creating on the flat surface and check weather the part is manufacture or not.

Master Section
Master section is the section view of the actual product and based on that master section we have to create the model. All the small parameter like thickness and class B feature are provided in master section. Not necessarily all Class B Feature are available in Master Section. But the detail of some Class B Feature are provided with the master section.

Class B Surface
Class B surface is created by making the offset of the class A surface, but we have a big piece is missing which is created by sweep command. Normally we extrapolate sections but we don’t much section, so we simply offset the surface.
Class C Surface
Class C surface is created by sweep command with reference surface option and given a draft of 3° in side to get positive draft analysis. After that we trim the surface and created the solid surface.

Class B Feature from Master Section
We have to create the class B feature from master section, so we have to read the master section properly and then crate the class B feature and at the end we have compare our class B feature and master section to see if we had created properly or not.
We started class B feature which is Doghouse, so we create the outer body of the doghouse by converting the master section and then thicken the surface. And give the draft to the body, but in our master section draft is not given so we did without draft, because have to meet the customer requirement.

Then we made the internal ribs and then thicken it too.

And finally, we assemble the rib to main dog house and then we unitrim to the main body.

Result:
The A-pillar is successfully designed and check with the master section and results are satisfactory to our design procedure.
