Week 9 - Project 1 - Door Applique Design with Engineering Features

REPORT :-

1) OBJECTIVE :- To create the Door Applique Plastic component through the given Class-A surface, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

2) what is :-

  1. DRAFT :- Draft is providing angles or tapers on product features such as walls, ribs, posts, and bosses that lie parallel to the direction of release from the mold. This eases part ejection.
  2. DRAFT ANALYSIS :- This identifies the zones ( using color codes ) and highlights the areas which deviate from the specified values along a defined draft direction. 3 Degree id nominal Draft.
  3. TOOLING AXIS :- This the Axis along which the mold will eject.

3) DRAFT USES :- Draft is required on all parts in the direction of mold movement ( i.e Tooling Axis ) in order to allow parts to release or eject from the mold properly. Draft is the angle in which the part is tapered to allow it to release properly. As the part cools, it tends to want to shrink to the core side of the mold.

4) PROCEDURE :-

For performing Draft Analysis, 1st we have to create a Tooling Axis. So for it we will create a point on the surface centre. And Insert the Axis system on the point. Ensure that it is not current. Then interest the surface with the y-z plane and x-y plane observe the intersection. By observing it, we can conclude that there is definite draft on the surface so we will create the Tooling Axis on the point created. Create a line on the point in Y-direction. Therefore, we got our Tooling Axis.

Now, perform Draft Analysis on Class A surface. Click on the Feature Draft Analysis Command. Place the compass on the Axis and lock it. Then you will see a red cross will be seen when you will place the curser on the surface, click anywhere on the surface and you will get the Draft Analysis. Observe it.

For performing Draft Anlysis of the Close Plastic component, do the same step and observe the colors.

For the Draft Analysis of Final component with Locator and Heat Skates, do the same step by using the same Tooling Axis. We will observe that the draft given on the Locator and Heat skates shown blue. If we place the reader on it, it shows 0.5 degrees which the given draft. Hence the Daraft Analysis is done properly.

5) CONCLUSION :-

  • All three 4-way Locator were created with proper draft angle (0.5 degees).( As shown in Images.)
  • All the 11 Heat Skates are also created with proper draft angle inside and outside ( 0.5 degrees) . ( As shown in Images.)
  • The Components are made with proper draft and Tooling Axis.
  • Hence these Locators and Heat Skates properly help to resistrict the dgrees of freedom. Therefor only 1 Degree of freedom is present which in Tooling Axis Direction for attachment.

6) Below are the Images:-

  • Images of the Tooling Axis creation and Draft Analysis.

  • SS of the completed design in various orientations (Isometric, Front, Side, and Top View).
