Draft Analysis & Tooling axis

This is the analysis which is used to check weather the draft of certain plastic design or material is possible or not. The main requiement for this analysis is Tooling axis for the given plastic component and Class A surface of the component. Tooling axis is the asix which is created by plastic designer which is going to be used as Tooling axis for injection moulding which is the axis were both core and cavity get seperated in most condition tooling axis is created in the place where the component has cenetr hole or on the center surface of the component. Tooling axis is created in center in such a way that all the drafted surface of component measured same draft angle with respective X axis and Y axis. Creation of Tooling axis is different for different component here we used Bisecting method. After creation of tooling axis draft analysis is done the axis is dragged and kept over tooling axis and got locked and direction of draft analysis is given and draft degree is given in scale mostly 3 degree is given. If all surface of component are able to pass 3 degree all surface will be coloured in green. If any surface cannot pass 3 degree to 0 degree it is coloured in blue and if any surface below 0 degree it will be coloured in red colour. Using Cone tool we can measure the angle of the surface.

Creation of Tooling axis:

  1. The point is created on the Class A of the surface
  2. The line created on the point which is called as tooling axis
  3. The tooling axis line is thicken and changed to blue colour

Draft Analysis of Class A

The Class A surface Clears draft analysis with the tooling axis which is created

Class B

Class B is created by extracting class A surface and then using untrim tool, untrim of surface is done and trimming is done for all the surface which are untrimmed and the offset is done. Then fillet is given to required places

Class C

Class C is created by creating a outer boudary of class A surface and then sweeping with respective draft direction and then class C and Class A surface is joined and then they are trimmed with class B and final surface model is created

The draft analysis of final model is done and we can see that both class A and class C is green colour which means that clears draft analysis and class B reminas red colour.

Heat stakes and Locator

Once final model surface is created then door applique is created into part using closed surface tool and support surface is created into part is created by using thicknees tool.

Once both door applique and support is created then there is two major part that are needed to be creaetd to join both door applique and support they are Heat stakes and Locator. The locator is created with two types they are 4 way locator and 2 way locator. Locator is created by making plane and sketch is created and padded in seperate body and then draft and fillet is done as per design rule. Once one locator is creaetd other is created by using copying the main locator and using paste special option and then using translate option it is moved to required location.

Heat stakes is created by extracting a edge from surface and making it to smooth curve and ponit is created over the line with required distance. Then on one ponit sketch is created and then padded in seperate body and then once the main heat stakes is created the remaining is created by using copying the main heat stakes and using paste special option and then using translate option it is moved to required location.

So in this model I have created 11 heat stakes and two 4 way locator and one 2 way locator and the clearance hole is also created for all the above mentioned features, so once all the feature is created and hole is created those body is added and removed with main body.

Here we create these features for locking the door applique with support surface and to avoide transition of door applique in all direction

Draft analysis is done for final component of Model on the B surface side features of door applique and all the features clears draft analysis
