Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge

Machining with Planer

Objective:

To perform an explicit dynamics simulation to find out the Equivalent Stress, Total Deformation and also insert a User-defined result to calculate the temperature of the body. You need to perform this for 2 cases. One will be with a cutting velocity of 20000mm/s and the other will be with a cutting velocity of 15000mm/s.

Geometry file:

Properties of Materials used:

Structural Steel

Steel 1006

Mesh file:

In this simulation, meshing is done by choosing the tetrahedrons method for the planer and by selecting all the four edges chosen 10 number of divisions as it is a plane rectangular workpiece.

Analysis setup:

In this setup to perform the simulation chosen end time is 7.5e-004 which is very less.

As we are dealing with explicit dynamics, we focus on the changes that happen in a very short time for which we are focused on a finer mesh and the end time with energy factor to be 0.1.

To perform the analysis given fixed support to the workpiece and velocity of 15000mm/s and 20000mm/s with two different cases and outputs are tabulated.

Simulation Results:

Tabulated results:

Velocity

(mm/s)

Maximum

Total deformation

Equivalent stress

Temperature

15000

26.618 mm

654.18 MPa

406.09 °C

20000

35.385 mm

664.94 MPa

400.08 °C

Conclusion:

From the above results, we can find that the stress developed is almost the same in both velocities.

Total deformation is high with a velocity of 20000mm/s.

This shows that when the velocity has increased the deformation is also increased.
