Week 9 Challenge
Attached is the Matlab script file(EnergyManagement_Strategy.m) which implements the Energy management strategy.
The input to program is the "UDDS drive cycle(EnergyManagement_Strategy.mat)". Based on the power demand of the vehicle during the drive cycle the ultracapacitor,Fuel Cell & Battery power is taken into operation to supply the demand.
The output of the program is the power request from Ultracapacitor, Fuel cell & Battery units.
The attached code is also provided with comments for its description.
Now coming to the output of the code after execution(EnergyManagement_Output.fig):
The output graph visualizes how power demand is distributed among different energy sources—ultracapacitor , fuel cell , and battery—throughout the drive cycle.
Interpretation of the Output
Power Demand (Black Curve)
Represents the total energy requirement over time.
Initially zero, then gradually rises as the vehicle starts moving.
Peaks around 780 seconds, reaching slightly above 35,000 W, indicating a high-energy demand phase.
Declines back to zero, likely due to braking or idle periods.
Ultracapacitor Request (Red Curve)
Mirrors the rapid fluctuations of the power demand curve but at a lower magnitude (~21,000 W max).
Handles sharp transient peaks, meaning it absorbs quick bursts of power needed for acceleration.
Drops rapidly when demand decreases, showing fast discharge and recharge cycles.
Fuel Cell Request (Blue Curve)
More gradual and steady compared to UC.
Peaks at around 11,000 W, suggesting it provides consistent baseline power rather than transient spikes.
Ensures stable energy supply while relying on battery and ultracapacitor for dynamic variations.
Battery Request (Green Curve)
Relatively low throughout the cycle (~3,000 W peak).
Acts as a moderate buffer, supplying stable power between UC (short-term surges) and FC (long-term power).
Used during mid-range energy demands rather than sudden peaks.
Behavior Summary
Ultracapacitor handles rapid energy shifts (high acceleration, braking events).
Fuel cell provides steady power output (base load energy supply).
Battery manages intermediate loads, preventing strain on UC and FC.
Peak power demand occurs at ~780 sec, indicating a significant acceleration or uphill scenario.
