Challenge

Week 9 - Challenge 3 - Bumper

BUMPER CHALLENGE

OBJECTIVE:-

  • Create the Bumer Plastic component through the given Class-A surface.
  • Create the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface and it should meet the requirements of the draft angle
  • Perform the draft analysis on the model.

REPORT:-

TOOLING AXIS

Tooling axis is the direction in which mold or core and cavity opens. The ejection of the part from mold depends on the draft. A zero draft can result in difficult or no ejection due to shrinkage. It is recommended to add a minimum of 0.5 to 1 degree of the draft for non-textured surface & 3 to 5 degree of draft for textured surfaces.

Steps used to create tooling axis for the given Class-A Surfac

  1. Extract the grill surface from Class A surface by using extract command and create the boundary and close it by the line command

  2. Fill the surface and create a point and axis system.

 3. Define the tooling axis from the point in x direction.

 SURFACES

Class B surface

  • The Class B surface is created from direct offset method rather than extract because of the complex surface.

  •  The class B-Surface is direct offseted from the Class A-surface at 3mm inward direction.

 Class C surface

  •  The C-Surface connects the class A-Surface and B-Surface. It is created using Sweep command. Boundry of the class A-Surface is swept along the tooling direction.

  •   The A & C-Surface are joined together then it is trimmed along the B-Surface.

FINAL MODEL

 DRAFT ANALYSIS

Draft analysis is performed based on color ranges identifying zones on the analyzed element where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponds to specified values. Minimum draft angle is considered as 3 degree.

  • Screenshots of the Draft analysis report for both the given Class-A surface and the final plastic component.

 DRAFT ANALYSIS FOR FINAL BODY

TREE STRUCTURE

  • Screenshots of the solid model with the proper color code of the draft angle in various orientations (Isometric, Front, Side, and Top View)
