Challenge

Week 9 - Challenge 2 - Switch Bezel Design

Tooling axis

After getting the Class A surface, our first step is to create the tooling axis.

To create a tooling axis, we need to check the best possible axis which is best feasible axis to create the mold in effective cost.

Since we required draft angel of 3degree, and the component is a bit complex we need to create the tooling axis in between x and y axis to obtain a better draft.

After looking the class-A surface, the better please to create the tooling axis is on the base surface

Then we need to create a point on the base surface, and insert the axis system

Then by applying intersection we will create the reference lines for bisecting line to get tooling axis

First in x direction we will create a bisecting line, and this will be our main tooling axis

Since we require the 3-degree draft on Y axis also we will be creating a line on Y axis to give the angle required to the main tooling axis.

Bisecting method

Then by selecting the bisecting option in line tool we will be obtaining the main tooling axis, which will be our main tooling axis.

After creating the main tooling axis, we will be performing the draft analysis, which will be projecting the data which is near by 3 degrees If not the tooling axis which is created need to cross check or need to be modified.

Daft analysis

After creating a complete solid body, we will switch the part to material mode and then select the drat analysis tool

After selecting the tool, we will pace the axis point on the tooling axis and then lock it.

After that we will use select the body to check whether the given draft is proper or not.

By seeing the color indication, we will get to know it is correct or not, the by using compass we will check the present draft and then depending on the value obtained we will modify the tooling axis to achieve the required draft angle.
