Challenge

Week 9 - Challenge 2 - Switch Bezel Design

SWITCH BEZEL DESIGN

OBJECTIVE:-

  • Create the Switch bezel Plastic component through the given Class-A surface.
  • Create the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface and it should meet the requirements of the draft angle
  • Perform the draft analysis on the model.

REPORT:-

TOOLING AXIS

Tooling axis is the direction in which mold or core and cavity opens. The ejection of the part from mold depends on the draft. A zero draft can result in difficult or no ejection due to shrinkage. It is recommended to add a minimum of 0.5 to 1 degree of the draft for non-textured surface & 3 to 5 degree of draft for textured surfaces.

Steps used to create tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface

  1. Extract a base surface from Class A surface by using multiple extract command and create a point on it.

2.Insert an axis system and draw two lines from taking an intersection of Class A surface then create a tooling axis for y direction by bisecting two lines.

    3. Create a new sketch and construct a tooling direction in x direction from intersection and a line from the point

 4. Bisect the two lines (tooling axis in x & y direction) which were created earlier and construct a tooling axis and publish it.

SURFACES

Class B surface

The class B-Surface is extracted from the A-surface and it is offseted at 2.5mm in downward direction.

Class C surface

The C-Surface connects the class A-Surface and B-Surface. It is created using Sweep command. Boundry of the class A-Surface is swept along the tooling direction.

TRIM SURFACES

The A & C-Surface are joined together then it is trimmed along the B-Surface.

FINAL BODY

DRAFT ANALYSIS

Draft analysis is performed based on color ranges identifying zones on the analyzed element where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponds to specified values. Minimum draft angle is considered as 3 degree.
