Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation (Ribs & Screw Boss) - Challenge 1

Aim:

To create rib features for the coin holder model following the design rules.

Procedure:

1. From the solid coin holder model extract the bottom B surface. Using the sketcher position take the extracted surface and draw a random line from the upper end of the surface. The line should be iso-constrained.

2. The hight of the rib is to be maintained as 5 times the thickness of the component. The thickness of the component is 2.5 i.e., extrude the line up to 12.5 mm. Extrude the bottom side up to 1mm so that the surface is attached to the solid component.

3. Using the thicksurface feature in the part body window, thicken the surface with the value of 0.4 x main component thickness i.e., 1mm. Assemble the created rib with the main component.

4. Create draft angle on all the sides of the rib with 0.5deg.

5. Create fillet for the rib with 0.25deg by selecting all the faces of the rib.

6. The overall thickness between the main component and the near the rib feature should approximately the same. To check the thickness at the joint, create an intersection exactly at the middle of the component by offsetting a phase in middle and taking reference of the phase as shown below.

7. Create a circle in between the join of the rib and the component. set the circle mode as tritangency and select the two fillet lines and a line on the A surface to create a circle in between. The measurement of the circle should be nearly at the range of main component thickness i.e., 2.5mm.

8. Another rib is to be created maintaining a distance of 3:1 ratio from the first rib. Calculate the distance by dividing the hight of the first rib with 3 and create a line maintaining the distance calculated.

9. Follow the procedure done for the first rib and check the thickness value and the distance between both the ribs.
