Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
Attachment Feature Creation (Dog House)
AIM:
- To create the Door Trim Component from the given Class - A surface.
- To create the tooling axis for the given Class - A Surface meeting the requirements of the draft angle.
- To attach Dog House in class - B surface side in the component.
- To perform the Draft analysis on the model.
DESCRIPTION:
CREATING TOOLING AXIS :
It is defined as the direction in which the mould/core and cavity open. Selection of the direction of the tooling axis depends on the easey at which components can be easily ejected.
By analysing the class A- surface the most easily ejectable in Y- axis direction with perpendicular to the ZX- plane. Because major walls are parllel to YZ -plane.
Then select the flat surface from class -A surface to extract , given the point on surface. Provided axis system based on point on surface to done the intersection between class A surface and YZ plane.
create point to point lines on the suspected drafts. Draw the lines parallel to walles. Then bisecting the lines throw the point.

Create bisecting line with the two lines and point to create a tooling axis.BISECTING LINES were used to get the exact medium from the two sides so that maximum positive draft angle can be achieved.
CLASS A- SURFACE:

DRAFT ANALYSIS ON CLASS A- SURFACE :
The Draft Analysis command enables you to detect if the part you drafted will be easily removed. This type of analysis is performed based on color ranges identifying zones on the analyzed element where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponds to specified values.
- Before going to draft analysis go to customized view parameter >under mesh >check material and then click ok.
- Now for draft analyses go to insert » analysis » feature draft analyses.
- Use the compasss to define the draft direction.
- In the colour scale change the draft angle to 3 degree.
- The component changes to green in indication of passing draft angle.
- Use running point to check the angle on the component.

CREATING CLASS B SURFACE
- Extract the surfaces from the class A using extract and untrim them.
- Use Extrapolate to make sure that all the untrims are properly intersected to trim and offset the surfaces to 2.5 mm to create the thickness.
- Trim the extra surfaces using trim command.
- Insert them into new geometrical set and name it with respective part names.
- Apply fillets to the model after creating the entire surface.
- If the edges are outside the fillet value will be added to the thickness of the component and if the edges are inside, the fillet value will be subtracted from the thickness of the component, for instance the thickness of the component is 2.5mm.
- Perform trims one at a time so that it will be clear to understand.

CREATING CLASS C- SURFACE:
- Extract the boundary from the class A surface using boundary command.
- Use sweep command to draw the C -surface.

- After getting sweep then join to Class A- Surface and trim the output with class B surface to get final closed surface output.

CLOSED SURFACE :

DOG HOUSE CREATION :
"C" is where the doghouse contacts the backside of the surface

-
Doghouse wall thickness at the intersection of the part wall ( C ) should be 40% or less than the main wall stock ( T ).
-
The height of ( B ) should be between 3.0 – 6.0 mm

CREATING SOLID BODY :
- Now open part design workbench and using close body surface create a solid of the component.
