Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
AIM:
- To create the dog house feature on the class B surface of the part using design rules.
TOOLING AXIS:
- Tooling axis is the defined axis to perform the manufacturing process within the injection molding according to its direction.
CREATION OF TOOLING AXIS:
MAIN TOOLING AXIS:
- Analysing the class-A surface by manual visualizing to see which direction is most suitable.
- According to the 3D view, the direction of the tooling axis to be chosen is perpendicular to the flat surface.
- Create a point at the center of the bottom flat surface
- Create a line using the point-direction option and select the reference of z-direction for the line and it is called as Tooling axis.

SIDE CORE AXIS:
- Create a line using the point direction option and select the reference of y- direction for the line and it's called as side core axis.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:
- The analysis of the model should maintain the nominal 3-degree draft angle to the tooling axis.
- Draft should be given to the plastic component to reduce the wear and tear and improve the production quality and accuracy while ejecting the part from the mold cavity.
How to perform the draft analysis
1. Go to insert < analysis< feature draft analysis.
2. Align the tooling axis with a compass.
3. Click on the surface to see whether it is in permissible limit draft values or not.
4. The entire surface should be green in color.
DRAFT ANALYSIS FOR DOOR TRIM PART:
DRAFT ANALYSIS FOR DOG HOUSE:

DOG HOUSE:
- Dog house is an engineering feature mounted on the class B surface of the component to increase the strength of the part.
- The design of the dog house is to avoid the sink marks on the class A surface due to the high volumetric thickness of the part.
- The other engineering features such as screw boss, and ribs are fixed over the dog house by considering the length factor of the screw boss. It is also looking for embossment for screw boss attach one piece of plastic to another.
- The dog house molding has been accessed by side core movement.
