Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

Boss and Dog House for the Centre console coin holder

CONSIDERATIONS :

SCREW BOSS

General Guidelines for Bosses:

  • Draft - 0.5 degrees on walls of boss
  • Thickness - Typically 40%* of the nominal wall at the base.
  • Height to Diameter Ratio - 3:1
  • Radii - 0.25mm maximum radii.

CONSTRUCTION:

The screw boss was created on the bottom side of the given object. The surface on the rear side was extracted and the sketch for the screw boss was created, Using surface extrude the sketch was extruded on both the sides to ensure that it bisects the surface well.then the stiffeners for the screw boss were created and they were union trimmed with the screw boss. Then the body of the screw boss was copied and pasted again in the feature tree using paste special option. Using the TRANSLATE command the newly pasted screw boss is moved to a new location.

DOG HOUSE

"C" is where the doghouse contacts the backside of the surface

CONSTRUCTION:

The sketch for the Dog House is created on the extracted surface and the sketch is surface extruded to 20mm on one direction and 1 mm to the opposite direction using the draft angle option and mention the draft angle as 3 degree. The extracted surface is offsetted to close the top and then trimmed with the extruded surface. As the dog house has a opening on the side way a seperate tooling axis for the side core was created. The dog house should be added to the main part body before the screw boss 2. So the screw boss 2 was deactivated and the point used to create the sketch in reference with the screw boss 2 was isolated. So that the will be no errors. Then the dog house is assembled to the part body and the screw boss is activated again and Draft analysis was made on the side core tooling axis.
