Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
Aim:
- To design bosses and Dog House for the coin holder following the design rules
- To Perform draft analysis on the final component
Given Input: The final result of one of the previous exercises - Coin Holder is used as the input

Procedure:
- A sketch is created for a screw boss to accomodate an M6 screw. So the ID of the boss is taken as 5.2mm.
- The thickness of the screw boss can be a maximum of upto 0.6 times the wall thickness which is 2.5 in this case.
- So the boss can have a wall thickness of 1.5mm
- Here now the OD is {5.2+(2 x 1.5)} = 8.2mm

- This screw boss is extruded to a height of 12mm.

- These bosses need to be supported and strengthened by ribs. So sketch is created as shown below for the ribs.

- These ribs are combined to the boss by union trim option, thus removing the inner portion of the ribs.

- Fillets are added to these ribs and boss.

- This boss with the ribs can be copied and using paste special as result with link be duplicated. This duplicate can be positioned anywhere required using the translate command.
- For creating the Dog House, a sketch is created as shown in the below image. This sketch is extruded and drafted on all the required faces.

- The Fillets are added as required and shelled to give a thickness of 2 mm.

- In order to prevent sink marks, the wall thickness of the dog house where it meets the part wall need to be reduced to about 40% or less than the main wall.

- So an offset is created and trimmed at a height of 4mm from the base.

- Then a draft of 0.5 degrees is given to the flat face created during the offset as shown here.

- The translated screw boss is positioned on this dog house. The Screw Boss and dog house is added to the coin holder
