Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 1
Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 1:
Objective:
Create the rib for the Centre console coin holder considering the design rules mentioned in the video.
Tool:
Catia v5

Given data:

Usages of ribs:
Ribs can be as strengthening part of the plastic component which makes the part stronger with out increase the thickness of itself and allign the component with the part together then acting as stopper as wel and it makes mounting the parts together as easy as possible.
Factors that we should've take into our concern before we design a rib:
- Height
- Thickness
- Location
- Quantity and
- Produceability
Rules and regulatinons for create the ribs:
- Thickness of the rib t*0.4
- Height of the rib t*5
- Optimal radius 0.25mm
- Thickness on the top is grater than 0.75mm
- optimal draft angle for the faces is 0.5 degree
- For spacing for steel 3:1 and preffered 2:1
Draft analysis:
Draft analysis is a handy tool which allows to see there's a component or part if does it clear completly with tooling which means we can predetermind if the part can get ejected from the mold during the ejection process.
Creating the tooling axis:
Point direction method:
so that i've extracted the bottom surface and created a point and created a line in point direction method at z direction.

Bisecting method:
In this case i've lines on the intersection i took on x direction then i created a bicecting line between those sketches

then same thing i've done on the y direction as well.

then i created a line between those two lines in bisecting method so this line's gonna be as our tooling direction

Creation of rib:
In a begining i drew a sketch for the rib

Then i extruded t*5 as it was mentioned in rules

Then i've thickened that surface t*0.4 as it was mentioned in rules

Then i gave the 0.5mm draft angle for all the faces

And i filleted the edges in 0.25 mm radius

Then i've added with the part body

Then same steps i followed to create another rib and in this case for spacing i followed 3:1 method
so in this case we'got the formula y/x=3
we've got Y height of the rib= 12.5
So, X=y/2 ,X=12.5/2
Hence x = 4.16
and as we got to maintain the 5mm of distence between the ribs so i've offseted the line of rib 2 around 6mm
so, y/x=3
12.5/6 = 2.08
since it ain't cross the value of 3 we can go with it
