Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 1
Creation of RIBS:
RIBS:
Their primary function is to increase stiffness and strength of the component. They also used for
1. Locating and arresting components of assembly.
2. Providing alignement in mating parts
3. Acting as stopper or guides for mechanisms.
Design Rules:

1. DRAFT: Min draft is 0.5 degree on either side. Maximum value of draft depends on the tip thickness minimum tip thickness required is 0.75mm so high value of draft may reduce the tip thickness.
2. Thickness of ribs : Genraly thickness taken for ribs is 0.4T where T is thickness of part.
3. Height of ribs: It is considered 5T where T is thickness of part.
4. Spacing between two ribs these depends of RIBs height ration of Height to spacing is 3:1 or 2:1.
5. Radius: Minimum 0.25mm radius fillets is used .
6. Root Thickness: Maximum thickness at root should be 1.3T where T is thickness of part. More then this can result into sink marks.
Cosntruction of RIBS:

This profile is extruded along the tooling direction and height is 5T here T is 2.5mm therefore height is 12.5mm

Now thickness is given that is 0.4T here T is 2.5mm so thickness of rib ae per guidelines is 1mm

Now draft is given as per the tooling direction and minimum 0.5 Degree draft is given

Now Tip thickness is checked that should be minimum 0.75mm

Now minimum edge fillet of radius 0.25mm is given to all sharp edges

Now we need to check the thickness at Root of Ribs which should not be greater than 1.3T that is in our case root thickness should not be greater than 1.3*2.5= 3.25mm
First we take intersection with the part body to get the section.

It is clear from this measurement that diameter is 2.6 which is less than 3.25mm so our Root thickness is as per design guidelines
Spaving between the ribs

height of ribs are 12.5mm so for 3:1 ratio spacing should be minimum 4.16mm so spacing given by us is also as per design rules.
By this above analysis we can say that our RIB design is as per the general guidelines.
