Objective:
To perform a transient structural analysis on a worm gear assembly,
To find out the Equivalent Stress, Equivalent Elastic Strain, and Directional Deformation.
Introduction:
This project is about performing a transient analysis on a worm gear assembly. Worm gear assembly consists of a gear and a worm having their rotation axes in the cross and their teeth in contact, Hence by rotating the worm, the gear will rotate about its axis as well.
Procedure for setup
Open ANSYS>>Drag and drop transient structural model in the project schematic window.
Go to the engineering data to choose the materials (in our case we are working with the default materiel (structural steel)
Go to the model tab
Rename the different as required

Go to connection >> contacts
Make with them frictionless

Set the joint as follows:

Go to tab for the meshing:
For the meshing choose the values as follows:

The following analysis settings are defined for the simulation.

Set the joint load as follows:

Go to solution tab and insert equivalent stress, directional deformation, equivalent elastic strain.
Results
Equivalent Stress

Equivalent Elastic Strain

Directional Deformation

Conclusion
Through this simulation, we notice that the different properties found are varying along the worm and the gear but we retain that the maximums of equivalent stress, equivalent strain and total deformation are respectively 2952.1 MPa, 0.014942 mm/mm, 14.399 mm.
