Week 8 - Universal Joint
Report week 8 Universal Joint
Aim: perform a transient structural analysis on a double universal joint with a spring using three different materials: Structural Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium alloy. You need to obtain the Equivalent stress and total deformation for all the three cases and compare them.
Procedure:
Import geometry

Three material are used in this case:

There is no contact but joint in this case.

Result:
case1: structral steel
Total deformation

Equivalent stress

case2: stainless steel
Total deformation

Equivalent stress

case3: titanium alloy
Total deformation

Equivalent stress

Conclusion
| case | total deformation | equivalent stress |
| 1 | 38.637 | 1501 |
| 2 | 38.637 | 1453.4 |
| 3 | 38.637 | 736.63 |
From the table, it is observed the value of maximum total deformation is same for all cases. The maximum v-m stress in the spring for case 1 is the highest and for case 3 is the lowest because the value of young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and compressive yield strength is more in case 3 than ither cases.
