Week 3 - 2D meshing for sheet metal

I tried several times to upload my .ansa file but every time it failed. I don't know why, I am still uploading report and will send .ansa file by email.

Report

Aim: extract midsurface of the hood model and finish 2d mesh

Procedure:

  1. check geometry for error, clean up geometry until there is no more error, I used Ansa auto fix in this case
  2. extrac midsurface, use Feature Area Selection Tool to select surface of the hood, offset a 0.375 to get a mid surface
  3. Delete half of geometry to save work
  4. Set up quality creteria before mesh, set mesh parameter such as Target Length, Mixed and 1st Order.
  5. Before meshing, try to split geometry to get better mesh flow. For this area below, suppressing cons is needed. Suppress some construction lines, do not lose any features.
  6. Create 2d mesh on surface, use split and reconstruct to eliminate any off element.
  7. Use the copy tool to create another half of the hood. Use topo to make connection.

Learning Outcomes:

I learned basic process of Ansa to extract midsurface and create 2d mesh. There are lots of detailed in the process for beginner to remember and follow. More practice is needed.

Conclusion:

There are some problems during this assignment:

  1. I still need some example of how to split geometry to get better mesh flow.
  2. During creating another half part, 2 off element came and I cann't get rid of them.
  3. After creating another half part, I used topo to create connection, however, some tripple cons came. I need to know in what situation we have triple cons and how to fix them in each situation.

I think I only finished a part of the job and support is needed for this case.
