Week 8 - Universal Joint
OBJECTIVE:-
We have to perform a transient structural analysis on a double universal joint with a spring using three different materials: Structural Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium alloy. The three materials must be used on the joint with the springs alone.
CASE SETUP AND EXECUTION:-
1. First open the Ansys workbench.
2. Go to toolbox select the analysis system and double click on the transient structural it opens a new tab on the graphical area as shown below.

3. Next click on the engineering data select the required material.
4. Next import the geometry in geometry.
5. Right-click on the geometry and click on the edit space claim it opens the new space claim tab as shown below.

6. Check the geometry it is fine to leave it or any error in the geometry fix them.
7. Next go to the model click on the edit mechanical model it opens a new tab as shown below.

RESULT OF CASE 1:-
MATERIAL: Structural steel

TOTAL DEFORMATION

EQUIVALENT STRESS

RESULT FOR CASE2:-
MATERIAL: Stainless Steel

TOTAL DEFORMATION

RESULT FOR CASE3:-
MATERIAL: Titanium Alloy

TOTAL DEFORMATION:

EQUIVALENT STRESS

COMPARISON
| CASES | TOTAL DEFORMATION |
EQUIVALENT STRESS (MPA) |
| CASE1 | 38.637 | 1930.7 |
| CASE2 | 38.637 | 1917.4 |
| CASE3 | 38.637 | 1980.1 |
CONCLUSION:-
On comparing the above cases the total deformation is constant even in the change of material but stress varies. Different materials have different properties due to this the stress varies.
