Week - 8 - Morphing

ANSA JULY BATCH 1

AIM:-

perform morphing on the models given .

THEORY :-

Morphing is the adjustment of shape and size of the component to the new size and shape without disturbing the connectivity and the boundary conditions, the topology of the CAD stays same only the coordinates of the nodes change. Morphing techniques are used in the industries for recreating or reshaping the existing model for better purposes.

More recently, morphing technique has become a significant tool of computer aided designers and graphics animators by providing an effective means of producing a seamless sequence of forms. It is used to create a smooth transition between two models by inserting a sufficient number of interpolated models between them. Especially without numerical inputs, morphing changes the design or shape and size of a component.Implementing morphing can help in reducing the time taken to develop new designs, with morphing one may not require going back to CAD designer to update the geometry, and the mesh morphing the CAE model can be updated in the background by keeping all the BC’s and loading cases, the updated nodal position require less computational time during solving.

morphing allows creation of 'n' number of parameters for different designs, enabling easy trial and error method of design correction. Component and full system level FE/CFD models (such as automotive vehicle Crash, NVH and durability models) can be morphed to fit target. For the cases where, parametric CAD is not available or is not easily linked to the CAE, morphing softwares allow engineers to study parameterized changes in the attributes of vehicle geometry.

Industrial examples are the cars like Honda Brio and Honda Amaze. Honda had launched a compact Hatchback modek Brio in the market. They were now aiming at introducing a sedan model. In order to save time, money and energy required to built a whole new car, Honda extended the rear part of the Brio and made it like a sedan class car. This saved time and cost very much. This is how morphing is used in industry. Some more exapmles are the cars like Hyundai i10 and Accent, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Dezire, Ford Figo and Aspire, etc. Aviation industry uses morphing in a same way as is used in the automobile industry.

MODEL-1

1. import the model

2. use topo option to join the surfaces . orient the model and clear the geometrical errors .

3. use new function in boxes in morph deck . select ortho and box select the part where we want to morph like shown in the below image .

4. use move function in box morphing to reshape or morph the part .

5. use split option to divide the box selection to different parts , so that we can reshape the the parts we only needed using move function.

6. final morphed part .

MODEL-2:

1. import the model

2. model before morphing .

3. now we create new morph for dog house and ribs . we use move option along axis to increase the height .

4. final model .

CONCLUSION :-

we have successfully morphed the given models .
