Week 8 - Challenge 6 - Core & Cavity Design
CORE AND CAVITY DESIGN
AIM:-
To create the core and cavity blocks for the switch bezel component.
DESCRIPTION :-
1. CREATING THE TOOLING AXIS -
The tooling direction is basically the direction that the mold pulls a part. the mold is built in two seperate pieces. the one is cavity side and the other side is core side. the core pulls apart from the cavity and thats the DYE line or the tooling direction.
- open the given cat part file.
- check for the gaps between the surfaces for that click on join and then preview.
- if there is any gap between the surfaces join them with the maximum tolerance of 0.003mm.
from the class A surface extract the boundary and intersect these boundart with the plane YZ and check , create the line of two and create the bisect line by using bisecting method and high light the line with thickness and color and publish the line as main tooling axis .
hence the tooling axis is created as shown below

list of publication of class A B and c with the main tooling axis as shown below

DRAFT ANALYSIS:-
The draft analysis is the command used to detect if the part you have drafted is easily removed. This type of analysis is performed based on the color ranges identifing zones on the analyised elements where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponding to the specified value.
- Before going to draft analysis go to customised view bar and under mesh check the material and then click ok.
- Now for draft analysis go to insert and click on analysis under that feature draft analysis is the option to used.
- Use the compass to define the draft direction.
- in the color scale change the draft angle to 3 degree.
- then the component chganges to green in the indication of passiong the draft angle.
- use running point to check the angle on the component.
then the draft analysis is completed.
PARTING SURFACE :-
Generally Injection mold has two component the movable half and the half fixed, during the injection molding process these two are pressed tighhtly with a sealed hollow to avoid the melt flow leakage and maintain the certain holding pressure, the pressed surface are called parting surface, usually parting surface are the biggest projection of the outline of the part.

PARTING LINE :-
- A parting line is the inevitable part of the injection molded products.
- It is the line of seperation between where two halves of the mold meets.
- it manifest itself for the injection molded parts as a line it runs the entire perimeter of the part.
- in most parts, it is just a line that runs straight down the middle.

CORE DESIGN:-
CORE:-A portion of the mold that goes inside the cavity to form the interior of the hollow part.
CORE-CAVITY:-A term used to describe the mold created by mating A Side and B Sides of mold halves.

CAVITY DESIGN:-
- A mold is a hollow form typically made from the stainless steel that has plastic injected into it to manufacture a plastic part.
- The plastic is inserted into the mold cavity which is a hole in the mold shaped like the desired part.
