Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design

Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design:

Objective:

Create the Core and cavity blocks for the switch bezel designed in the earlier challenge.

Tool:

Catia V5

What is core and cavity in plastic design?

The core is the male part which forms the internal shape of molding. The cavity is the female part which forms external shape of molding.

Given data:

In this case we've got solid part which we've devoloped previously

Making of core part:

I've took a boundry of class A

Then i extrapolated

Then trimmed class C surface with extrapolated surface

And i trimmed the class C surface with B surface

Then i drew the sketch to create a solid blocks

Then extrude it along with tooling direction and filled the top then joined it

And then i trimmed B surface with the extrude i created

Then i've made a solid core part with closesurface

Making of cavity part:

And same things which i done have followed in this case as well

First i've created extrude

Then trimmed of with B surface

Then as useual i've solidify it with close surface

Making of parting line:

A 'parting line' is the line of separation on the plastic part where the two halves of the plastic injection mold meet.

For parting line i created the intersection between Class B and C surface

Creating of parting surface:

Parting surface is the point of where core and cavity meets together and in this case our class B surface can be a parting surface because core and cavity have created with Class B surface so in this case i splited the class B surface with my parting line so, now we've got our real parting surface
