Week 8 - Challenge 5 - Core & Cavity Design
AIM
To create Core and Cavity for the given Solid Body, and creating a Parting Line and Parting Surface.
TOOLING AXIS
Tooling axis: The direction in which the mold or core and cavity opens is the tooling axis.
CORE AND CAVITY
The core is the male part which forms the internal shape of the molding. The cavity is the female part that forms the external shape of the molding. The core is moving, side & cavity is fixed side in a mold.
DRAFT
Required in both the core and cavity for easy ejection of the finished component.
The minimum draft angle is 3 degrees.
PARTING SURFACE
A parting surface is a surface that separates the mold block into two parts – the core and the cavity.
PARTING LINE
A 'parting line' is the line of separation on the plastic part where the two halves of the plastic injection mold meet. The line actually indicates the parting 'plane' that passes through the part.
CONCLUSION
