Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Coin Holder Design

COIN HOLDER DESIGN:

OBJECTIVE:

To create the Coin Holder Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model.

COIN HOLDER:

Coin holder is a plastic component assembled in the car. It is very handy and convenient to keep coins and rupees. Coin holder of a car looks like as follows.

CLASS A SURFACE:

Given class A surface is shown in the following figure.

TOOLING AXIS:

Tooling axis is the direction that the mold parts pulls apart. The mold is built in two separate pieces, one is core side and another one is cavity side. Core pulls apart from the cavity at the end of the process and that is known as tooling direction. Following figure shows the direction of Tooling axis.

Here, given class A surface's walls are at an angle of zer degree. So, we cannot use bisecting method to create tooling axis. Simply at the centre point of the base surface.

CLASS B SURFACE:

In order to close the class A surface we need another two surfaces. They are the class B and class C surfaces. First I have created the class B surface. Side walls are extracted seperately. They untrimmed and extrapolated then trimmed together as shown in the figure. Offsetted and fillets measured with class A surface then applied.

Next is base surface, It also extracted, untrimmed, extrpolated and finally trimmed together as shown in the figure.

Top walls and outer flange are created by following same procedure as above.

Side walls, base, top walls and outer flange are trimmed together in order to create class B surface.

CLASS C SURFACE:

Outer and hole edges of class A surface are extracted as a curve. Then it is sweeped to form a surface as shown in the figure.

CLOSED BODY:

First class B and class C sufaces are trimmed together and then it is joined with class A surface by using Join command.

This surface is thickened in part design model by using closed body command as shown in the figure.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

Draft analysis for the coin holder is done by using draft analysis command. Followings are the results of draft analysis.

TREE STRUCTURE:

RESULT:

Coin holder plastic component is created from the given class A surface, by creating class B and C surface. Tooling axis for the same is created and the results are published.
