Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Coin Holder Design

Challenge 4 - Coin Holder Design:

Objective:

Create the Coin Holder Plastic component through the given Class-A surface. To begin with, the tooling axis for the given Class-A Surface should be created meeting the requirements of the draft angle and at the end perform the Draft analysis on the model. Take the Thickness of the component to be 2.5 mm

Tool:

catia v5

Given data:

In this case we've got class A surface from class A surfacing team

Creating the tooling axis:

Intersection on X direction Intersection on Y direction

So there's no draft angle on some faces and as a product designer i'm not authorised to make modificatoin on class A, so i'm gonna implement two type of method for creating tooling axis that are point direction method and bicecting method, for see if it's clearing the tooling direction or not.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

Draft analysis procedure is vital thing when it's comes to a design a product so as a product designer i have to make sure there's a part which i devoloping will obay the enginneering and manufactureing rules and regulation so, in that case draft analysis feauture is handy tool to the product designer for make sure if the component produceable or not and or if the component clearing the tooling axis or not it's fine feauture which allows to predetermine about the product and if there's any of issues with product we can modify the product right in initial stage of developing.

Bisecting method:

So,in this case we can create tooling axis at centre point of the compnent by taking intersection lines on x and y directions and create line on both ends of intersection lines then create the bicecting line between of those then again we have to create bisecting line between those lines respect to the center point we've created, so by this opposite walls of the product will fall with the origin point and tooling direction as well.

Point direction method:

so that i've extracted the bottom surface and created a point and created a line in point direction method at z direction.

As we'can see there are some surfaces doesen't clear with tooling axis in this method

Bisecting method:

In this case i've lines on the intersection i took on x direction then i created a bicecting line between those sketches

then same thing i've done on the y direction as well.

then i created a line between those two lines in bisecting method so this line's gonna be as our tooling direction

Also in this method we have some faces which doesn't clear with tooling axis so i suggest strongly to the class a team to give a minimum draft angle to that faces

Creation of B surface:

let's begin with base in this case i've extracted the side walls and i untrimmed it extrapolated it and offset it same thing i've done with base surface as well and i trimmed them together

then we've got the base surface

then i extracted the surfaces on the top edges then i extrapolated it and trim them with base surface

then i extracted the surfaces of outer wall then i untrim them all and extrapolated and trimmed then offseted inside around 2.5mm

then i trimmed the outer wall with base surface

After all that we got the profile we want and eventually i gave some fillets at whereever it needed

then i created hole for that i created boundry and create sweep around it and trimmed off with the surface

Creating the emoboss into class B:

I've extracted the required surfaces and untrimmed and extrapolated then trimmed off

Creating class C surface:

for create the class C surface i've extracted the boundry of class C surface then i create a sweep with tooling direction then joined with class A and C surfaces

so, now we've got complete closed surface which ready to get solidified

My suggestion to class A team:

Since there're some faces doesn't have 0 degrees of draft so i will suggest to class A team to give some minimum draft angle to the part
