Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Bumper

REPORT

ABSTRACT:

In this design I need to design the either side of the bumper with proper rules and regulations at every phase of the designing. The main inclusive steps in this designing is formation of the A surface, B surface and the last joining of C surface. The designing of the Right hand side is complex and it also includes many small and important features to design and develop. The developing and maufacturing of the the front bumper the automobile is done through injection moulding only.

INTRODUCTION:

A bumper is a structure attached to or integrated with the front and rear ends of a motor vehicle, to absorb impact in a minor collision, ideally minimizing repair costs. They are designed to absorb impact to the front and rear of vehicles and minimize low-speed collision damage. Today, standard passenger vehicle bumpers have a rigid reinforcing bar under the outer cover, with sections of compressible foam or plastic underneath. On the other hand, the bumper cover (also known as the front fascia) is a visible, molded body component that's typically made out of either plastic or fiberglass. This is the part of the front end that people often misidentify as the bumper itself. According to Cost Helper, a new bumper for a passenger car can cost anywhere between $100 and $1,000. Installation and painting the new bumper can cost between $200 and $600. Bumpers for pickup trucks, SUVs and luxury vehicles will have higher costs. The bumper's purpose is to prevent damage to the car's frame and body in the event of a small collision. Passenger cars are required by law to have a bumper that meets a federal performance standard of protection. When a car hits something at a low speed, the bumper will press backward to use the crumple zone to soften the impact as the foam and fenders absorb the energy. The crumpling of the bumper, fender, and foam limits the amount of damage that can happen to the car and the people inside of it.

METHODOLOGY:

The basic method to develop the solid body for the front bumper is through the extraction of offset of the class A surface. After that there are many number of gaps in the the offset surface. So after the initial offset I made some adjustments to fill the patches in some areas. aftr that I fill the patches in the centre and major required areas. The major difficulty I faced in the is in the centre ares of the, in there filling and development.

RESULT:

The major result of the Front bumper is all depend on its draft analysis. It is all depend on the draft analysis of the class A surface and Solid Body.
