Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Bumper

AIM:TO CREATE THE BUMPER PLASTIC COMPONENT THROUGH GIVEN CLASS A SURFACE

INTENT:

  • To create class A B & class C surface for the given component
  • And To form the tooling axis and capture the surface properly
  • Finally To check the feasibility of the component with a draft of 3 degrees

GIVEN CLASS A SURFACE :

a surface made by the designer which is given as an input to the plastic modeler to work on It is aesthetic Class A surface

Tooling axis :

The tooling axis is the direction of drawing a sheet metal where the finished component is easily ejected on a particular direction and axis. The tooling axis is important for removing the material when finished the tooling axis is created from the given class A surface

creation of tooling axis

Extract the base surface of the given Class-A Surface and create the center point of the Extracted surface and then creat a line type by selecting the nature of surface and protrude the line to specfic length this is how the TA is done.

FOR DRAFT ANALYSIS:

  • First we need to analysis the model and then choose dummy axis in certain direction.
hence forth as we intersected to proceed we observed that the side walls are not given any draft
  • ultimately we know that as class-A surface is made by other designer only he is authorized to make changes so Now we go to analysis draft analysis and follow usual procedure to do the analysis
  • Align the compass and click on the surface and as expected the model is mostly in red color i.e. negative draft with respect to the axis.
To correct it to as best as we can we moved the compass a bit till we got most of the surfaces in green and lock that position.
After hitting ok, we change the direction of the line from z axis to compass direction The axis will align itself accordingly

Creation of Class - B surface :

First We have to divided the entire model into base, side walls, inside side walls and outer flange and worked on them one by oneEverywhere we follow same procedure i.e. extract, un-trim, extrapolate, trim and offsetFirst base, then side walls. To avoid confusion, we trimmed both together and made them one Also the fillet was given at the last.

Creation of Class - C surface :

were as In this model unlike the earlier models we have used parallel tooling axis. Hence we cannot use ‘with draft direction’ option under
sweep.
The C surfaces will mostly be created like shown below

Join class-A and class-C surfaces together the below figure shows the join surface of class A + C surface.

and then trim class A + C surface with class B surface

After forming the class b & A + C all the three surfaces can be trimmed and check for any discontinuity

After trimming this is how the surface will look like

the final output of the closed body surface - BUMPER

Go to the part design and close the feature

after the complete creation of bumber the final draft analysis is done on the model
