Week 8 - Challenge 3 - Coin Holder Design

1. COIN HOLDER

NOTE : The draft analysis of the coin holder shows that there is some red color patch in the Class A surface and part model. And I've consulted with Hashein Sir and he had cross checked the model and we found that there is some issues in the Input Class A surface.

And i could'nt give fillet to the tip of B surface, this is because I'm using the older version of Catia(2009 version), and I've consulted this issue with Hashein Sir.

Generally the component that we design must be toolable or manufacturable. In automotives, some exterior parts of automotives and most interior parts of automotives are made of plastics. And 80% of these plastics are manufactured by Injection molding. Injection molding machine have two halves- Core and Cavity, in which one of them is movable and the other one is fixed. To mold by Injection molding, every faces of the part component must clear the tooling axis direction. Tooling axis direction is the direction in which both the core and cavity opens. Every face of the part component must clear the main tooling axis direction, there are exceptions in which Sidecores are used when the part component have holes or slots in it.

Tooling axis of Coin holder-

Tooling axis direction of the coin holder is in the direction of Y axis

Draft analysis-

The part component that we design must have minimum draft in all faces of the part component. This is to avoid friction between the part and mold block of injection molding machine.

The nominal draft angle is 3 degree

The minimum draft angle possible is 0.5 degree

Draft analysis is a technique that is used to analyze whether our part model created in part workbench of Catia is manufacturable based on the draft condition applied.
