Week 8 - Challenge 3 - Coin Holder Design
Coin Holder creation

Step 1: Class A Analysis

Step 2: Creation of Tooling Axis
After carefull inspection of the Class A surface. A point is created by exporting the base surface and creating a point at the center. It was decided to put the tooling direction near to Y axis. Tooling axis creation is easily possible when there are walls surrounding the class A surface. It can be easily created by bysecting lines through a point. In this case, 2 tooling axis was created in Y-Zdirection and X-Y direction.

After creation of tooling direction in X-Y and Y-Z direcion, these were bisected through the point created along Y axis. This is selected as the tooling direction.

Step 3: Class B surface creation
Class B surfaces arecreated by extracting surfaces from the provided styling surface, untrimming its edges, followed by strching them along the edges which are later trimmed and finally offsetting them to desired thickness. To make it easier to navigate, the styling surface's Class B surface was created in parts as Base, base flanges, sidewalls, outer walls and outer flanges. After creation and offsetting of all these surfaces, they were trimmed to desired shapes which was followed by applying of fillets.

Step 4: Class C Surface creation
Class C surface was created by creating a boundary over the styling surface and sweeping them perpendicular to the styling surface and later on joined and trimmed with Class A surface.

Step 5: Final Trims and Fillets
The final trims were made by extrapolating Class B surface with the Class C surface and later on trimming the excess portion. After creation of the final trims and fillets, the part is checked for any open boundary.

Step 6: Draft Analysis
Draft anallysis is done to ensure the part is manufacturable using moulding process. The part is manufacturable, if it has draft in positive direction and is more than 3 degrees. Draft analysis is done with the help of Feature Draft Analysis.
Step 7: Thickening of component
The closed surface created can be converted to a solid body using the feature close surface.
