Week 8 - Challenge 2 - Base Bracket Design

DRAFT ANALYSIS OF BASE BRACKET:

AIM: To analyse the draft in the plastic component using feature draft analysis in surface designing(Class A surface).

PROCEDURE:

The surface to be draft analyse should be designed in surface using its features. After the completion of surface design it is recomended to go for the draft analysis.

TOOLING AXIS: To analyse you must crreate a tooling axis which is used to define the whole component ,It is advised to create a tooling axis in the hole present in surface or large flat body in the component , we have to create a dummy tooling axis to define the main tooling axis.

Take the surface to be analysed intersect it by creating a plane along the direction ,create two lines along the drafted surface then bisect the line parallel to its direction.choose the line command select the bisecting feature pick the two lines you have created then select the desired direction. The bisected line is defined as MAIN TOOLING AXIS,operations are performed in reference to it

DRAFT ANALYSIS: Select the feature analysis command from the insert toolbar pick the compass in the top right corner and merge it in the main tooling axis and make sure the direction is correct unless the image is blue in color and flip the direction to get right color. The advisable degree for the draft is 3 deg(for plastic component). If the draft analysis correct it will be in green color. There is option of quick analysis and full analysis we have to pick quick analysis. Red or blue color represents it should be modified .

This image is one it should be flipped to other direction to get proper draft analysis as represented in following figure.

The bisecting line as main tooling exercise:

The draft analysis with the color scale is below.
