Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover

DRAFT ANALYSIS ON FAN COVER

AIM :

To perform draft analysis for a given fan cover model by creating tooling axis using bisection method.

TOOLING AXIS :

Tooling axis is defined as the axis at which the tool entering direction clears all maximum possible drafting angle issues with mentioned standard angle from A-Surface to C-surface creation and the angle at which the tool cannot enter particular angle or cannot clear the draft angle issues at that point the side core comes in to where draft angle is less than the required angle.

DRAFT ANALYSIS :

Draft analysis is performing of operation of feature draft analysis in which this tool is used to clear errors whereever the draft angle is less than the required draft angle.

PROCEDURE FOR CREATING TOOLING AXIS :

  • First we should check the class A surface for any unwanted boundaries using join or boundary tools and if any fix them.
  • Then we should check all the planes of the class A surface to choose which direction tooling axis should be preferrable.
  • So once tooling axis is selected we create a dummy tooling axis is taken in the choosen one and we take inclined lines to inclined surfaces on both side of a axis i.e, if tooling axis is Z we take inclined lines to x and y and bisect them together to get the tooling axis.
  • So once the final tooling axis is finaliazed then we work on errors and when errors get to optimise state we go for that axis as a tooling axis.

PROCEDURE FOR DRAFT ANALYSIS :

  • First check for the surface is in material mode , if it is not made it in to material mode.
  • Then go to feature draft analysis tool select compass and then align it on the tooling axis.

  • So after arranging the compass to tooling axis if green colour is appeared the draft angle is in bounds according to the given coloue code.
  • If the angle is under the limit we have to create another axis and tilt the present angle opposite to the negative or previous angle so that it will comes under the required draft angle.
  • So until the optimsed result is obtained we should continue the operation.
