Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover

Feature Draft analysis of a Fan Cover

I. The first step is to check the connectivity of class A surfaces.

And There is no disconnectivity here.

II. Moving forward we need to check and decide the right pulling direction.

Considering X and Y-Axis as pulling directions, the mold needs a side core but for z-direction, we don't need side cores. hence we can have the z-axis as a pulling direction.

Creating Tooling Axis

Add a point at the center of the circle at the top, and add an axis system.

Clearing X-axis

Use ZX plane and intersect with fan cover. Check for parallel edges that may cause errors. And create a bisecting line from the parallel edges.

Similarly, check along the y axis

Considering the above two create a bisecting line and that's the final tooling axis for the component,

Publish the final tooling axis and class a surface.

Then insert feature draft analysis, enter the nominal draft value that is 3 deg. And check whether the component has enough draft on the parallel faces along the pulling direction.

The colored contours reflect how good drafts are and they are compared with components.
