Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Draft Analysis on a Fan Cover

Report on how to perform Draft Analysis

We first Open the CAT part file which contains the Class A surface. We first need a tooling axis to perform the Draft Analysis on our component. We first observe all the Planes and surfaces and see which axis we are going to create the tooling axs across. We make the tooling axis by first creating an axis system at the centre of the model in this case the fan cover which has a hole. we first make a point at the centre of the hole. Then we make a dummy tooling axis to get an idea of how and what kind of axis we are trying to create to get an accurate analysis and we hide the dummy tooling axis. We start by creating an axis system on the point that we created at the centre of the hole. We then use the intersect command with the surface of the body across one plane in this case the XZ plane and the surface of the fan cover. This gives us the boundry of the part on a 2D plane which is the XZ plane. we then see the tilted surfaces and create two point-point lines and extend them. Then we create a bisecting line bisecting these two extended lines. This line that was created is the line which clears tooling across the X-axis and we rename it as TOOLING CLEARING X DIRECTION. We repeat the same steps across the XY plane and get another bisecting line which we name as TOOLING CLEARING Y DIRECTION. The next step is to draw another bisecting line bisecting TOOLING CLEARING X DIRECTION and TOOLING CLEARING Y DIRECTION. And this line that we have obtained is the required TOOLING AXIS. We change the colour and give the line a thickness and use the Publication option to publish the Tooling Axis and the Fan Cover. Once we have done this we can open our draft analysis tool and select our surface. We then place the compass in our desired Draft direction over the tooling axis and it does the analysis for us. We then find out if it clears to be manufactured.
