Week 8-3D Tetra Meshing Challenge
OBJECTIVE
The objective of this assignment is to create a 3D tetramesh for the following models with its mentioned quality criteria.
Model 1
The following model should have a target element size of 5 units with maximum element size being 7 and minimum element size being 2.Also, tet collapse is 0.15. This model should be meshed by first creating a surface mesh and then generating a tetramesh. The images of the model is shown below.
Model 2
The given model should be meshed using either quick tetramesh or volume tetramesh methord. The target element size is 3 and tet collapse is 0.15.
Model 3
The given model should be meshed using either quick tetramesh or volume tetramesh methord. The target element size is 4 and tet collapse is 0.15.
PROCEDURE
Model 1
The model is imported & then surface cleanup is done. Very small fillets are removed at this stage. Then a surface mesh is generated by using automesh. Then the mesh is checked to identify any elements failing for the quality criteria . It is then fixed and tetramesh is generated using the tetra mesh tool. After the 3D mesh is generated, it is then checked for tet collapse failure .In this model no tet collapse failure was observed. After this the 2D mesh generated is deleted.
Model 2
The model was imported and was meshed using quick tetramesh option with a target element size of 3. After this tet collapse was also checked but no problems were found. After this the 2D mesh automatically generated is deleted.
Model 3
The model was first imported and a surface cleanup was done as it contained duplicate surfaces. Then the turbocharger was meshed , one component at a time using the quick tetramesh option. Then the elements were checked for tet collapse. The elements that were failing was fixed using the tetra remesh option in tetramesh panel. After this the 2D mesh automatically generated is deleted.
