Week 7- Meshing of Backdoor Challenge

Objective:

Mesh the backdoor geometry of a car that is provided and it should pass the quality criteria given below.

Target Element size - 5 Units

S.N Quality Criteria Value
1 Aspect Ratio 5
2 Skewness 45
3 Warping 15
4 Taper 0.5
5 Min. Length 3 Units
6 Max. Length 7 Units
7 Min angle Quad 45
8 Max angle Quad 135
9 Min angle Tria 30
10 Max angle Tria 110
10 Tria % 15

Initial

Procedure:

1. Import the Model.

2. Since in Component there are 190 component id. Move the other surfaces to the main component id using Tool-Organize option.

3. After that delete the empty Component id by going to Tool-Empty, select all id and delete them.

4. This Model is made up three sheet metal which are connected to each other.

Create a three different component id A, B and C.

5. Using Tool-Organize option move this three different Sheet to different component id.

6. Only Visible component A, check the surface. If the surface is fine, since its symmetric component mask the half.

7. Create a mid surface using Geometry - Mid surface.

8. Similarly create mid surface for B and C.

9. Do the geomtric cleanup of component id A,B and C.

10. Input the mesh quality criteria.

11. Mesh the component A while fixing the quality.

12. Do the same with component B and C.

13. Duplicate the element in symmetric Mid surface A, B and C using Tool-Reflect option.

14. Check for free edges if necessary equivalance it using Tool-Edges option.

15. Check for the duplicate elements and if there are duplicate delete them.

16. Check normals for mid surface A, B and C.

If needed adjust them.

17. Check thickness of component A, B and C.

If component having different thickness create different properties and give thickness.

18. Create a material card and assign to the property.

19. Do the final check.
