Week 7-Long Piston With Cam

Aim:

To slove the  transient analysis of a long piston model

Software requried :

                           Ansys work bench 2022 R2

Procedure :

Import the model from the portal and open in work bench

There are Three cases given to slove in this analysis

  • Frictionless case 1
  • Frintional case 2 with 0.1 co eff
  • Frintional case 2 with 0.2 co eff

Frictionless case 1

This case is done with no friction on the path and the ball piston

Piston is kept as felxible part and remaining is changed as rigid body

The barrel is fixed so the piston only takes the translational moment

When it comes to the connections we have only two of them cam follower to cam and cam to barrel

Three joints are used here transilation moment on the piston and cam over the grove path, Then revalute joint on the cam and lastly barrel is fixed .

After the joints we assign the joint loads so we can simulate the model

The model is for 9 sub steps as given below

The analysis settings is given below .

Force covergences grapgh for case 1

Results for case 1

Directional Deformation

Equivalent Elastic Strain

Equivalent Stress

Case 2

The only change and an important one is we have a friction b/w the cam follower and cam as 0.1

Remaining settings are the same

the firitional connections is used here for remaining 2 cases .

results for case 2

Directional Deformation

Equivalent Elastic Strain

Equivalent Stress

Connection settings for case 2

Force covergense of case 2

Case 3 results

Directional Deformation

Equivalent Elastic Strain

Equivalent Stress

Connection settings for case 3

Force conergence

Result :

Thus the given model is analysied and projected here .

Summary :

The case 2 can be used because of the low friction on the moving area .
