Week-7 Head Impact

AIM:

To perform the head Impact Simulation and calculate the head impact criterion (HIC) value for the following cases

(i). Simple head model impacting against rigid wall.

(ii). Child headform dummy model impacting against rigid wall.

(iii). Child headform dummy model impacting against hood wall.

 INTRODUCTION:

Pedestrian protection CAE is a part of vehicle safety engineering from a crash perspective. In pedestrian protection, we look for imparting minimum injury to head, upper leg (thigh), and lower leg (including knee) in case of an accident with a human subject. These tests are usually done at a lower velocity from 20-40 kmph as accidents tend to result in more severe circumstances above these velocities and braking in case of an accident often results in collision at low velocities.

 PROCEDURE:

     STEP 1:

             CASE 1:

                     The given simple head model.

   STEEP 2:

            Create rigid wall

Go to Create entity ----rigid wall----select node point---proceed.

The CONTACT_SURFACE TO SURFACE has been created.

                 CONTROL_TERMINATION.

   STEP 4:

                Run the model.

The final simulation  of the simple head.

   CASE 2:

Child headform dummy model impacting against rigid wall.

    STEP 1:

           Given pedestrian model.

                    Create DEFINE &INCLUDE _TRANSFORMATION.

                Create CONTACT_SURFACE TO SURFACE

                        Rigid wall has been created.

The SET_NODE for Velocity_ has been creted,

   STEP 3:

          Run the simulation.

                Accerlation plot for HEAD_IMPACT.

                    STRESS PLOT for HEAD_IMPACT.

                     STRAIN_PLOT FOR HEAD IMPACT.

                          FINAL SIMULATION OF HEAD_IMPACT.

 CASE(iii):

Child headform dummy model impacting against hood wall.

 PROCEDURE:

       STEP 1:

                   Given model for HEAD_HOOD.

            Create INITIAL_VELOCITY

              Create SPC&SET_NODE for HOOD

             Create VELOCITY_NODE for Pedesterian head.

  STEP 2:

         Run the simulation.

               The final simulation of X-STRESS

                      ACCERLATION plot for HEAD_HOOD

                   STRESS for HEAD_hood

                  FINAL SIMULATION OF HEAD_HOOD.

  CONCLUSION:

$ The impact simulation of pedestrian headform is created for a simple case of scenario to a complex real time scenerio

CASE (i): Simple head model impacting against rigid wall.

CASE (ii): Child headform model impacting against rigid wall.

CASE (iii): Child headfrom model impacting against Hood.

$ The computational time required for simple case is less compared to real time case scenario but the accuracy of the result is poor for simple case.

$ There is a variation in the values for stree\strain .
