Week 7 Challenge - Assembly Workbench

WEEK 7 CHALLENGES REPORT:

In this week's challenge we have been asked to construct the parts and assembly of QUICK RETURN MECHANISM and CV JOINT along with their 2D drawings.

Similar procedures have been used for both QUICK RETURN MECHANISM and CV JOINT:

  • I initially started off by constructing the individual parts by using the part workbench.
  • Each part has been constructed by using BOOLEAN OPERATIONS.
  • The sketch solving status of each an every sketch is iso-constrained.
  • Every sketch has been saved as .CATPart in a folder.
  • Then a new product has been created and the part drawings have been imported using INSERT EXISTING COMPONENT option. For CV JOINT 2 of the same part are required so the same parts have been imported twice.
  • A new part has been created in the product and has been named SKELETON REFERENCE.
  • This skeleton reference consists of the main reference point constructed at the origin and planes which have then been published.
  • Then reference elements such as reference points and axes are constructed for each individual part and then published along with the planes involved in construction of the parts.
  • Then by using various tools such as MANIPULATION TOOL, COINCIDENCE CONSTRAINTS, ANGLE CONSTRAINTS AND OFFSET CONSTRAINTS, the required assembly has been constructed.
  • The assembly has then been saved by using SAVE MANAGEMENT option and then using PROPOGATE DIRECTORY option to make sure all the parts and final assembly have been saved into the same folder.
  • The 2D part drawings were then made by creating a new file for drawing.
  • Then by using projection tool, various views if the assembly have been generated onto the drawing sheet. These drawings have then been dimensionated using various tools such as BASIC DIMENSIONING, RADIUS DIMENSIONING, etc.
  • Then a frame and title block have been added to the drawing.
