Week- 6 - Solid meshing

Week - 8 – SOLID MESHING

REARVIEW MIRROR

Observation Report

Aim

  • To check for geometrical errors and mesh the Surfaces with the given 2D element Quality criteria.
  • Use tetra elements to mesh the Volumes defined in the model and check for the below quality after Volume meshing.

Procedure

  1. Import the component and Go for the Length option from the mesh module to find out the actual geometry of a model.

2. Perform topo on it, as the model is too distorted after importing from different software.

3. Geometry Check and clean.

4. Select all the errors and perform

5. The model was later checked for geometrical errors using Checks for Geometry and errors like crack, unchecked faces, and needle faces were fixed.

6. Now it is clear that all the errors have been fixed. Again, perform geometry check and cross check.

7. Meshing

Condition for meshing:

  • Use Tria for a flat surface and Ortho tria for a curvy surface.
  • Perform meshing by Classic Meshing – Mesh Generation – Spot mesh
  • Choose Ortho Tria or Tria elements based on the surface.

8. Make sure the type of elements are used for meshing in the Mesh Parameter.

9. After meshing perform Reconstruct on the same surface to achieve proper mesh flow.

10. After giving Spot mesh with ortho tria elements, I got some elements failing the quality criteria.

Part 1

11. After performing Reconstruct over the surface the issue was fixed. Now the elements failing was resolved.

Part 2

Part 4

12. Volume Meshing

Conclusion:

  • For the given Rear view mirror component, geometrical errors have been checked and the Surfaces have meshed with the given 2D element Quality criteria.
  • Then, using tetra elements to mesh the Volumes defined in the model and checked for the given quality after Volume meshing.
