AIM: To extract the mid surface of the given component individually, mesh the obtained mid surface, and assign the thickness.
The given model has to be imported and auto cleanup has to be done on the component then the mid surface has to be extracted from the components and have to be meshed individually with an average element length of 5mm and with respect to other quality criteria and to eliminate the quality errors. And finally, assign the thickness for the mesh.
The final model has been uploaded to google drive and the access link to the model is
Procedure:
Initially, the given model has to be imported into the workspace. The imported model will be.
Quality criteria for the model is
Mid Surface
Then the model is cleaned up for geometrical errors, then each component of the model is separated and mid surface has to be extracted from each component. The extracted mid surfaces are,
Inner extract
Outer extract
Hinges
Latch
Meshing
Each component has to mesh individually, first inner extract is taken separately,
As the inner extract exhibit a symmetrical shape, the component is trimmed in the middle equally. Nodes are created on the surface and then using the nodes surface is trimmed.
Now the trimmed surfaces has meshed with respect to given quality criteria and existing errors are cleaned using rebuild, element cleanup, edit element, split, remesh options available under 2D option.
Then created element have to be duplicated on another side, for duplicating reflect option has been used under the tool panel. Select the elements which have to be duplicated and then select the duplicate option under elements and select the nodes and then click on reflect.
Similarly for other components meshing has been done on the extracted mid-surface.
For hinges
For Outer extract
Some of the elements couldn’t clear the quality error under min size, as it was existing on the hemming regions.
For latch
There have been observed two thicknesses for whole model and separate two properties were created and it was assigned to each component respectively.
Result:
The given model has been successfully cleaned, extracted mid-surface, meshed with respect to given quality criteria, errors have been removed to an extent and then thickness has been assigned separately.
Conclusion:
For the given hood panel mid surface is extracted and mesh is generated with given quality criteria.
