Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge
AIM: mesh the following components individually and follow the quality criteria of mesh as per the given data.
OBJECTIVE:
- To import the following geometry file and check for solid surfaces and geometrical errors.
- To extract the midsurface of each component individually and check for geometrical errors.
- To mesh the individual components one by one and follow the quality criteria.
PROCEDURE:
- Firstly the geometry file is imported into Hypermesh.
- Go to the "Import" option and then select the file which has to be imported and the type of the file which is to be imported.
- After the geometry file is imported, change the view to the shadow mode and check for the solid surfaces.
- Any solid surfaces present need to be deleted. After deleting the solid surface we check for "geometry errors".
- The "auto cleanup" tool is then used to clean up the minor errors which clean as per the required element size. "5" mm is provided as per the given data.
In the above images, the following procedure of the geometry import and clean-up errors are seen.
- After completing the geometry cleanup now we begin with the extraction of the mid surface for the individual components.
- For the "midsurface" extraction, we use the "auto midsurface" tool from "midsurfaces" in the geometry tools option.
- For a better work on the individual component's midsurface separately and easily, we assign the individual cards to each midsurface of the individual component.
- We then check for geometrical errors and proceed with the meshing of components.
- After meshing the components we check the "mesh quality criteria".
- To do that we need to first put in the values as per the given data in the criteria tab which is shown below.
- The values of criteria are fed in for mesh quality checking and we go to the tool "quality index" in "2d".
- There we can see the number of elements that have failed and check the category in which it has failed.
- The "cleanup tools" available in the quality index help to correct the elements which fail the quality criteria.
- The "elem cleanup" tool from "2d" is also used here in the process of correcting failed elements.
- We go for Checking after the quality check and the correction of failed elements are done. The gap if present between the nodes of elements is also checked.
- We use the "edges" tool from the "tool" option to check for it.
The remaining components also go through with the geometry check, meshing, mesh quality criteria and the edges check as in the images below.
Hood Model
CONCLUSION:
The given model has been meshed individually as per the quality criteria in the given data.
