Deploying Connections

Aim: To deploy appropriate type of connections along with different 1D elements to the rear door FE model provided.

Model:

Procedure:

1. Deploying RBE2 Rigid Body Element on door hinge:

in the above figure RBE2 cluster and RBE2 two node connection is deployed as shown.

Since the hinge rotates along the Z Axis the rotational DOF is not constrained while other DOF is constrained as shown in the above image.

The above image shows the RBE2 two node connection using the two node option and the same is repeated for the other set of hinge.

2. Depolying Concentrated Mass Element Connection (CONMi) on door handle:

RBE2 cluster connection on the handel area as shown.

. Using the master node connecting the two cluster RBE2 connection a CONMi is deployed by giving the mass value in Tonnes as shown.

3. Deploying RBE3- Hexa connection:

Spot mesh is deployed on region shown below using RBE3 Hexa connection.

A 3D point is defined in the mesh and is converted to a spot weld point as shown.

the RBE3 Hexa connection is deployed using the connection manager by assigning P1, P2 and Psolid ID as shown.

On applying and realizing, the connection appears as shown.

4. Deploying CBUSH connection between Glass and Door:

Weather Strips are present on both sides of the window which acts as insulation to prevent constant heat transfer and to maintain the air conditioning effect.

Lines are created using curves on the glass and is convert it to Spot lines as shown.

CBUSH connection is deployed on both sides of the glass using the connection manager and providing the S, P1, P2 and PBUSH ID as shown.

on realizing the connection CBUSH is deployed as shown.

Repeating the above steps CBUSH is deployed on both Sides of the glass.

The Orientation of CBUSH elements are different and needs to be changed to local cordinates so it would provide the correct results when performing analysis.

Select all the CBUSH elements and click modify and enter the following as displayed.

All the coordinates get aligned with the local coordinates as shown.

Conclusion:

Appropriate connections were deployed on the provided car rear door.

Learning Outcome:

Getting to know about different connections and where to deploy them.
