Challenge

1 D Elements

Aim: To create 1D Elements in the given Component.

Model:

Procedure:

1. Click on Import Geometry and select file type as IGES from the drop down. Click Import to get the following component.

2. Select Geom - Midsurface - Extraction Option Choose Skin Offset - Auto Extraction and select one surface and click extract to generate the midsurface as shown.

2. Create another Component say Bracket_2 before creating midsurface for the other component.

3. Delete the Solid Part to display the midsurfaces alone as shown.

4. Move the midsurface to Bracket_2. Go to Tools - Organize - Select Surface option and click the surface - click move as shown.

5. Create a material for the component as steel with default values.

6. Create Property for the assigned material as Bracket_1 & Bracket_2 and assign the material.

7. Assign the property to the component as well.

8. Go to Geom - Quick Edit - Washer Split - Offset Value = 5

8. Mesh the components using 2D - Automesh - Element size = 7. Adjust the nodes equally as shown.

9. Select 1D - Rigids - Select Calculate Node - Multiple Nodes - Uncheck dof 4, dof 5 & dof 6 as specified only translational DOF to be constrained. Select the nodes to create RBE2 link as shown.

10. To Create a Box Cross Section Select HyperBeam - Standard Selection - Hyper Beam from Standard Section Library - Thin Walled Box from Standard Section Type and click create as shown. Edit the parameters as specified.

11. Select Rods - Choose Nodes and click create.

12. To Create Beam Element, Select 1D - rbe3 - Select Calculate Node - check dof 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 as specified All DOF to be constrained. Select the nodes to create RBE3 link as shown.

13. To Create a I Cross Section Select HyperBeam - Standard Selection - Hyper Beam from Standard Section Library - Standard I Section from Standard Section Type and click create as shown. Edit the parameters as specified.

14. Select Bars - Select Nodes and choose orientation and create CBEAM.

15. To Create Bar Element, Select 1D - rbe3 - Select Calculate Node - Uncheck dof 3 & dof 6 as specified only x and y DOFs to be constrained. Select the nodes to create RBE3 link as shown.

16. To Create a Cross-section: CROSS section Select HyperBeam - Standard Selection - OPTISTRUCT from Standard Section Library - Cross from Standard Section Type and click create as shown. Edit the parameters as specified.

17. Select Bars - Select Nodes and choose orientation and create CBEAM.

18. Create RBE 2 link at d & e with all DOFs constrained and add a mass of 10 as specified.

19. Create Spring element to join two components. Springs - Choose the nodes

20. Create Properties for Rod, Beam and Bar and give the material and beam section as per paramaters.

21. Update the properties of the 1 D elements

22. Select the 1D Detailed element representation to display the Cross sections.

Result:

1D elements are created on the given components as per the specifications provided.
