Week 6
Objective:
To define all the connections involved in a Car Rear Door.
Methodology:
The FE of car rear door is as shown in the figure below:
The different types of connections that can be present in this system :
Bolt connection
Spot weld connection
C Bush connection
Con mass connection
spot weld connection as shown below:
The washer are generated by using the zone cut option in the mesh deck.
The following connection shows a simple RBE2 connection.
All the bolt connection are performed first. The bolt are indicated with the help of RBE2 elements.RBE2 are of two noded and multi noded types. When two entities held together, the master node are created with the help of multi node RBE2 element and the centre of the two holes are joined using two noded RB2 elements.
The bolt element can also be assigned using the connection manager. The COG of any one of the hole is taken and converted into bolt. The detail of the bolt are specified using connection manager where the two parts that are to be fixed together are selected as P1 and P2.
The hinge of the door is connected using multi node RBE2 elements on the holes and the two noded RBE2 elements at the centre of the multi noded elements created earlier. The rotational constraint on the element is removed in order to allow the rotation of door around the z axis. This is done using the info tab of the element.
The next type of connection is the spot welds and the seam welds. The weld data is obtained from the FE and the COG or the curve data is taken using convert FE to curve options. The curve or COG is then converted to connection point. The details are entered using the connection manager. A new solid element is created to represent the weld element.
The next type of connection is bush connection which is used to represent the weather strips in the car.The base of the car glass has cushioning on either side while other three side have bush element representation only on one side.
The next element that is modelled is the car handle. The handle is model as a mesh element whose COM is placed at centre attachment of handle and COM value is entered into tonnes.
Learning Outcome:
The different types of connections that are to be made in the rear door of the car,
different method is used to make the connections.
