Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate
Objective:
To stimulate a sphere pressing on a table. Which intern allows the plate to deform. Here, we will allow the spere to displace 4mm towards the plate and see weather the plate is having any plastic deformation.
Solution:
-The materials used are Structural Steel for the sphere and Structural Steel NL for the plate.
-First, we import the geometry to spaceclaim and see weather the geometry is having any abnormalities.
-If there are any clear them and open the geometry in mehanical module.

-Now, we assign the materials to the geometry and make contact where it is required.

-Now, we mesh the geometry.

-Now, we give the boundary conditions in Analysis Settings

-Now, we fix the bottom face of the plate and we give displacement of 4mm to the upper face of the sphere.

-Now, we provide output parameters to the simulation.
-We also need to create symmetry to the sphere and place faces.

Conclusion:
Maximum Stress induced over the plate is 3296.7 MPa. The sphere has displaced in negative Y direction for about 4mm and again retracted back to it's original position.
The plate did not regain it's original position after the sphere left the contact and returns to its original position. Hence, we can say that there is a plastic deformation to the plate.
