Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate

Aim : To capture the plastic deformation experienced by a flat plate of Non-Linear Structural Steel when a sphere of Structural Steel is pressed down on it.

Setup: We begin by establishing symmetry along both X&Z axes and manually establishing the contact parameters between the Sphere and the Plate.

The contact is Frictional with a friction coefficient of 0.74 which is formulated using Augmented Lagrange and interface treatment with offset but no ramped effects.

We fix the bottom of the plate and apply a displacement on the sphere such that it will apply force onto the plate and then recess. This is done over 4 steps where max displacement is reached at step 2 and the solver type is direct.

Results: The maximum Stress developed in the plate is 3575MPa and the maximum strain developed in the system is 0.0178
