Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate

objective: to study plastic deformation in plate due to sphere pressing

Materials: structural steel for sphere

structural steel NL for plate

Symmetry: symmetric conditions has been defined in sphere and plate in the direction normal to the face.

Contacts:

Frictional contact has been defined between sphere and plate with a frictional coefficient of 0.74 at the point of contact based on matterial interaction.

Mesh:

meshing has been done with a element size of 1mm.

Analysis setting:

4 number of steps have been defined inorder to account for directional movement for sphere, with a direct solver type and large deflection ON.

Fixed support: fixed support has been given at the base of plate.

displacement: displacement has been given to sphere in -ve Y direction.

values as per image.

Results:

Equivalent stress on plate - 3873 MPa

equivalent plastic strain:0.019 mm/mm
